A Distant Melody ~ Sarah Sundin

There has been a lot of talk recently about war movies (Unbroken [WWII], American Sniper [Today]) and so I thought I'd throw in my pics for some great war-time books. This week, we go with WWII:

Book: A Distant Melody (Wings of Glory, book 1)
Author: Sarah Sundin
Publisher: Revell
Publishing Date: March 1, 2010

My interest in this book is: I'm always on the hunt for a new author and have heard rave reviews about Ms. Sundin.

Type of Book: Historical Fiction, WWII CA & England

Ideas / message / plot: Truth & "ball-bearing lies"

Favorite characters, quotes / lines: I absolutely loved the history embedded in the book. I am always amazed at how little I know/remember about WWII. I forget how big is was--how it encompassed so much of the world: the Pacific, Europe, Africa; Land & Sea warfare, Japanese Interment camps in the US, rationing, and so much more. This story brings so much of the past to life.

When I finished this book I felt: Oh, yes. For being her debut novel, Sarah Sundin really took off! I'm in love. In love with the cast, in love with the history, in love with the stories told.

Other books to read by this Author or theme: Sarah has a wonderful collection of books. Click on her name at top to see her author page.

I had so much fun checking our her blog & website, too; especially her WWII map!

Overall: This is such a sweet, Hallmark movie style read. The movement and pace, the historical facts, the humor and dialogue; this is a fantastic read and, although not new to the shelves, it is new for me and I'm a fan. I will definitely be picking up more of Sarah's sweet WWII fictions to satisfy my reading addiction.

Thank you Sarah for taking us through this intense time of history and bringing it to life more than history books ever could.

Here's lookin' at you, Kid ~ A full 5-stars and will most definitely grace my bookshelves.
