Book Review ~ Fortress of Mist

Author: Sigmund Brower
Publisher: Watermark/Multnomah
Date of Publication: Feb 2013

"I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review."

It tells the story of an orphan boy who believes it is his destiny to conquer and rule the small kingdom of Magnus, The book takes place in England but travels to Europe and the Holy Land. A must for historical fiction fans.

My interest in this book: I previously read this book as a teen in High School and couldn't put it down! This is a rewrite, book 2 of what I'm guessing should be 4 books--based on the break up in the original.

Ideas expressed/message/plot: This book revolves around the use of science and it's power in the middle ages. Druids and Merlins. Influence and power of knowledge.

Favorite Characters: Thomas. Katherine. All of them, really.

When I finished this book I felt: like I wanted the next one right away. (In reality, this book represents pages 127-218 of the original 556.)

Other books I have read by this author: Magnus, 1995 publishing date. (Also rewritten later as Wings of Dawn in 1999 & a YA fiction series as Wings of Light series 1992)

Overall: It was ok but I'm glad to have the original on my shelf. Yes, the original is definitely bookshelf worthy. I would recommend this book to teens+. A great read for anyone into historical fiction, castles, Robin Hood/King Arthur days.

Read chapter one here.
