I received this book: for free through www.netgalley.com from the publisher for an honest review.
My interest in this book is: I have read previous book by this author and she is an AMAZING, fast-paced story teller. Kendig has developed in me a heart for those who serve in our military and the sacrifices he/she makes. I am honored to live on a street with a Vietnam Vet, a family who serves warriors with PTSD, and a family with a Navy mom & a sheriff dad.
Ideas expressed/message/plot: a little bit about overcoming your past & a lot about facing your fears. Sounds simple but the way she tells it is anything but!
Favorite Characters/quotes/lines: I love all the lead characters of this book! They are so engaging and realistic, especially Cardinal/Dane.
"Sometimes, we make a choice that hurts....But hurts heal when we face them. Leave them to fester, we have to chop off that limb or end up dying from the poison that infects our system."
What to know what Aspen & Dane look like? More details about them here.
When I finished this book I felt: tired! I'd stayed up until 1am to finish it--and I read it in 2 days! I closed the book, laid my head on the pillow, and drifted off to sleep with a satisfied smile on my face.
Overall: I loved this book. Trinity (the 1st book in the series) was good--I gave it 4 stars--but this one was off the charts better. I loved the pace and the battle that the Lead goes through. This is an intense read that has both a character driven and plot driven story line.
I would recommend this book to: anyone who enjoys fast-paced, action, & faith-filled stories with a dose of romance. Kendig is gifted in creating a realistic world that moves 100 mph. The quote "a good story is life, with the dull parts taken out" by Alfred Hitchock deftly applies here.
5 stars. Definitely bookshelf worthy, as all of the books I've read by her are.
Other books I've read by this author:
Nightshade & Digitalis of the series:
