Boook Review ~ In the Fields of Grace

***    Week 2 of our July GIVEAWAYS!    ***

Book: In the Field of Grace
Author: Tessa Afshar
Publisher: River North (Moody)
Publishing Date: July 1, 2014

I received this book from Netgally.com for an honest review.

My interest in this book: I adore the story of Ruth and have read other novel-interpretations of the book so I wanted to give this one a try.

Ideas / message / plot: There are so many ideas that Tessa shares through this story of Ruth; all truths from the Bible woven with intricate and beautiful threads through this story.

Favorite characters, quotes / lines: I fell in love with Ruth and Boaz even more than before as I read this enchanting story.

"There is only one measure of true success, child. How close you remain by His side. Does the dust of His feet get on your cloak because you follow so close? Does the sound of His whisper reverberate in your ear because you have drawn so near?"

When I finished this book I felt: #thankful #bliss #joy #worship #GodisSOgood #blessed

Overall: Tessa Afshar retells this story with the beauty and grace that Mozart and the greats wrote symphonies. One section comes in--the strings--followed by the soft but powerful entrance of the woodwinds. Soon, every instrument is playing in a way that whisks you away into a world that moves and carries you on the back of God's glory, majesty and love.

A quick bit about Tessa Afshar for those who have not yet "met" her:
Tessa was born in Iran to a nominally Muslim family, and lived there for the first fourteen years of her life. She moved to England where she survived boarding school for girls and fell in love with Jane Austen and Charlotte Bronte, before moving to the United States permanently. Her conversion to Christianity in her twenties changed the course of her life forever. Tessa holds an MDiv from Yale University where she served as cochair of the Evangelical Fellowship at the Divinity School. She has spent the last fifteen years in full-time Christian service in New England.

If you love historical novels and friends that live between the pages of a book, Tessa's critically acclaimed stories are for you. Her Middle Eastern background helps her capture the mystery that was the world of the Bible and make it come alive...

Bookshelf Worthy? Yes! This is a book that belongs on every Christian's bookshelf to either reread or share with others. 5 stars. Thank you, Tessa, for sharing your gift with us.
