2013 Books of the Year

Wow! Somehow I managed to read 55 books in 2013. I cracked the spine of about 60,
but some of them didn't quite merit the time to finish them. This list is just the sort of list you
can use to defend yourself against such books that would suck good-quality time from your week.

Here are my favorites of 2013:
(aka, books that made my bookshelf)

Favorite Novellas:
(these are short stories that you can read in a few hours)

A December Bride
by Denise Hunter
A February Bride
by Besty St. Amant
(Release Date: 1/28/2014)
I recently discovered her
(the last week of the year)
and--wow--what a find!

Favorite Historical:
Hood
by Stephen Lawhead
Retelling of Robin Hood
in the years after the
Norman conquest of
England
Flight of the Earls
by Michael K. Reynolds
(book #1)
In Golden Splendor
by Michael K. Reynolds
(book #2)

Favorite Contemporary:

Ronie Kendig's "A Breed Apart" series began with Trinity in 2012.
This is a must read series for anyone who enjoys high-intensity,
action-packed stories with an incredible message woven into
each book. I had such an adrenaline rush reading Talon. As for
Beowulf, I with I could get it into the hands of everyone I know.

Favorite Contemporary Romance:

Five Days in Skye
by Carla Laureano
Honestly, one of my all-time,
unexpected favorites of the year.
Could be a Hallmark Movie.
Glenbrooke Series
by Robin Jones Gunn
These were published years ago but what a gem to run across! I love these
sweet, simple reads that are packed with feel-good stories. Definitely worth a read.

Favorite Historical Romance:

Into the Whirlwind
by Elizabeth Camden
I love her ability to mix
history with romance!
Love at any Cost
by Julie Lessman
SO excited for the
release to the sequel
1/7/2014! What an
exceptional cast of
characters! And oh,
the romance of it all!
Rebellious Heart
by Jody Hedlund
Seriously, it sucked
me in like the rapids
of a river; gentle at first
and then, hold on! And
all the while...Beautiful!
To Whisper Her Name
by Tamera Alexander
She is now one of
my favorite authors
and I look forward
to her newest release
this April.

Favorite Devos:

Take Flight
by Robin Jones Gunn
and Cindy Hannan
Oh, the power of
storytelling to get you to
remember what you read!
The Busy Mom's Devotional
by Lisa T. Bergren
She has a new Devo
out as well that I have
yet to try.

Favorite Biblical:
Sherlock Holmes And the Needle's Eye
by Len Bailey
What a different
approach to mysteries
of the Bible. Take a
imaginative approach to
some of the questions
that are raised when reading
the Bible. Very intriguing
read that I think should
be in every Bible School.
Dark Hour
by Ginger Garrett
One of the best
Biblical storytellers
I have come across. Her
imagery you don't soon
forget.
