Book Review ~ Stealing the Preacher
Book: Stealing the Preacher
Author: Karen Witemeyer
Publisher: Bethany House
Publishing Date: June 1st, 2013
I received this book free through www.netgalley.com from the publisher for an honest review.
My interest in this book: previous books by this author
Ideas expressed/message/plot: God's detours; tension between being called to God and viewing him through past pain. While Silas is not the "Lead"Character (we root for his daughter & Crockett to get together), his character arc in this story is what moved me the most.
Favorite Characters, quotes/lines: Joanna, Crockett, Silas & Jackson are my favorites--yep, this book is so good that ALL four take the spotlight in winning a piece of my heart. Crockett for sure is number one; I was so stinkin' excited when, as I was reading, I realized this was a story involving the Archer's again!
When I finished this book I felt: in love with God.
Overall, this book is definitely bookshelf worthy. Seriously, Karen, I loved this story! My personal passion is to create an environment where people experience God. To read Silias' story--fiction or not--is exciting and inspiring; isn't that the purpose of our writing? Not just to entertain but to show people towards God. To inspire life change? Jesus taught by telling stories because people are inspired to action when emotionally moved.
I loved that Jo and Crockett weren't redemption stories, yet they helped lead the story. Absolutely fell in love with this story, the way it was told and the fact that it continued on with the Archer brothers. It made me smile when I first realized who was cast. :)
5 star. I recommend it for everyone teen+.
Other books to read by this author: Short-Straw Bride (the 1st Archer Brother tale) and Tailor Made Bride.
