Book Review ~ Match Made in Texas

Book: Match Made in Texas
Authors: Karen Witemeyer, Regina Jennings, Carol Cox, Mary Connealy
Publisher: Bethany House
Publishing Date: January 7, 2014

I received this book free through www.netgalley.com from the publisher for an honest review.

Type of Book: Historical Fiction;  1893, Texas

Ideas express/message/plot: Four ladies find love in a small town in Texas.

Favorite characters, quotes/lines: Clayton from Regina Jennings story: "God sure hadn't done His menfolk any favors when He'd made women such a puzzlement."

And, oh! how I enjoyed reading the "first kiss" scene in this second novella! This was by far my favorite scene in the entire collection.

My favorite novella: Regina Jennings, what an unforeseen find! I knew I would enjoy Karen Whitemeyer's novella because I'd fallen in love with her previous 2 books involving the Archer brothers (Short Straw Bride & Stealing the Preacher), but I was swept away by Jennings story-telling ability. Novellas can be tricky to get a good story going with full characterization and Jennings does it masterfully so. She has fun back and forth dialogue between Clayton and Grace as well as great tension that is brought on through both inner and outer conflict. Well done, Regina!

When I finished this book I felt: this was a fun read and an excellent introduction to various authors if one has not previously read any of these writer's works.

Overall: I think this is a great read for those looking for either a few quick read or those readers looking to wade in with some new authors and test the waters. I would say it is bookshelf worthy, if only for the opportunity to pass along to friends who want something good to read but aren't quite sure who or what is out there. I will definitely be trying out Regina Jennings Ladies of Caldwell County series.

I give A Match Made in Texas 4 stars.
