Type of Book: Inspirational Historical Suspense

My interest in this book: Mr. Bell has mentioned this "Kit Shannon" in his writing books and I dove for the opportunity to read one when I came across it at a used book store. I really appreciate Bell's instructional books on the craft of writing.

Ideas expressed / message / plot: Trusting in God's hand in your life. A young woman with purpose faces the odds against her to rise above, proving God's Will prevails.

Favorite characters, quotes/lines: Kit and Earl Rogers are fantastic! I really enjoyed this cast--they are lively and realistic.

When I finished this book I felt: "That was an unexpectedly great read!" I went in with very few expectations beyond the fact that Bell knows what he's talking about with the craft of writing.

Overall: I don't usually read this style of book (suspense); I'm more of a historical romance girl, but this was a most enjoyable read and I look forward to reading the rest of the Shannon Saga. This is also the first book I've read with Tracie Peterson, though I've seen her books everywhere. Perhaps I shall pick up one of her solo books soon, too.

I do have to say that this is one of the most overtly Christian books I've read in a while. There is so much scripture spouted off by the main character. Perhaps it's because the market allowed for it more in the early 2000's, I'm not sure, but I loved it. It was real life for someone who truly believes in God and is not fearful of what others might say or think. So many books today tip-toe around God, even in Christian books. This one is full on Bible and if I am spending hours with someone (fictional or no) I want to be thinking God thoughts & scripture.

 If you are looking for a fiction in which to study the craft of writing, this book has it all and would be an excellent pick!

I would recommend this book to: anyone teen +. This is a bookshelf worthy read or a library pick up. Right now it's only for sale as a $3.99 eBook. Do it...you know you want to. ;-)
